| The main US organization for professional astronomers, which was founded in 1899. There are over six thousand members, most of whom are professionally engaged in astronomy. Its objective is the advancement of astronomy and the promotion of closely related branches of science. It holds two general meetings each year and publishes three scholarly journals. It also has a grants programme and a Visiting Lectureship programme, and offers its members job-finding services. |
